These Terms of Service govern the repair services provided by THE NOTEBOOK REPAIRS STATION, a laptop repair bench at 1 Rochor Canal Road, #05-05 Sim Lim Square, Singapore 188504, Singapore (SG). They set out what the bench promises, what the customer agrees to and how disputes are handled. By leaving a laptop at the bench, sending a device for a later sitting or using this website, the customer accepts these terms. Please read them before a visit.
1. Agreement to These Terms
These terms form a contract between you and THE NOTEBOOK REPAIRS STATION. They apply to every repair, every diagnostic run and every collection sitting at the bench, whether the device is delivered in person, by a colleague or by a courier, and whether the repair is booked by message or taken as a walk-in before noon.
If you do not agree with any part of these terms, do not leave a device at the bench. A customer who leaves a device after reading these terms is taken to accept them, and a customer who sends a device through a courier is taken to accept them when the device is received at the intake bay. Where a separate written arrangement with a corporate customer conflicts with these terms, the written arrangement governs to the extent of the conflict.
2. Services We Provide
THE NOTEBOOK REPAIRS STATION provides laptop repair services: intake tagging, diagnostic triage, screen testing, battery review, component fitting and final handover. The bench is a repair station and not a retail store, an insurance provider or a data recovery specialist. Where a job needs a service that the bench does not provide, the bench will say so and will point the customer toward a suitable provider rather than accept work it cannot complete properly.
The service is described on the services page of this website and at the bench. A description on the website is an overview, not a guarantee of outcome. The bench cannot promise that every fault can be fixed, and it will not accept a repair that it believes is unsafe, unlawful or beyond the skill of the technician on duty.
3. Intake, Tagging and Bench Bays
Every device is tagged at the intake bay before any tool is used. The tag records the model, the serial number, the accessories left with the device and the fault in the words the customer uses. The customer is asked to check the tag and confirm the details at the bay. Once the tag is confirmed, the device is seated in a bench bay and the visit file is opened.
The guest is responsible for the accuracy of the fault description at intake. A vague description such as the laptop is broken is not wrong, but it slows the triage. A clear description such as the screen flickers when the lid is moved helps the bench reach the fault quickly. The bench will not change a tag without recording the change and the reason for it.
A device may be refused at intake where it is heavily soiled, where it shows signs of liquid damage that make handling unsafe, where it is subject to a legal hold, or where the customer cannot show a reasonable claim to it. The bench will explain a refusal at the bay and will not take a device on terms the customer has not accepted.
4. Quotations and Approvals
A quotation is given after the triage run, not before, because the bench does not price a fault it has not proved. The quotation names the work, the part and the expected collection window. The customer approves the quotation in writing, by message or on the triage sheet, before any work begins beyond the diagnostic run.
A quotation is valid for the period shown on the sheet. If the part price moves or the triage reveals a further fault, the bench will return to the customer with a revised quotation rather than proceed on the old one. Work that the customer does not approve is not started, and the diagnostic charge, if any, is stated before the device is taken in.
A verbal approval by phone is recorded on the triage sheet with the time and the name of the person who gave it. Where a repair is urgent and the customer cannot be reached, the bench will not proceed with a charge beyond the diagnostic run; it will hold the device and wait.
5. Customer Responsibilities
The customer agrees to provide accurate contact details, to respond to a quotation within the period stated on the triage sheet, and to collect the device within the collection window. The customer also agrees to remove any account locks or firmware passwords that would block a repair or a test, or to provide the required unlock at the intake bay.
- Provide the charger and any adapter normally used with the device.
- Confirm the tag details at intake, including accessories left behind.
- Keep a backup of important data before the device is left.
- Tell the bench about any previous repair or liquid incident at intake.
- Collect the device in person or send an authorised colleague with the tag number.
Where a device is locked by an account that the customer cannot unlock, the bench may be unable to test or repair it and may return it without charge beyond the diagnostic run. The customer should not remove the battery or open the chassis of a device while it is in the bench custody, because that can affect the repair and the warranty.
6. Backups and Data on Devices
The bench repairs hardware and does not guarantee the safety of data held on a customer device. A repair can involve replacing a drive, resetting a firmware setting or reinstalling software, and any of those steps can remove data if a backup does not exist. The customer is responsible for keeping a backup before the device is left at the bench.
Where a data copy is needed, the bench will ask the customer first and record the request on the triage sheet. A copy is made only where the drive can be read safely. Where a drive is failing, the bench will explain the risk and will not promise a full recovery. The bench is not a data recovery laboratory and will not disassemble a failing platter as part of a routine repair.
On collection, the customer should check that the data they need is present and that the device boots before leaving the bench. The collection sitting exists for exactly this check. The bench will not be responsible for data noticed missing after the device has left the bench, where the customer declined a backup or a copy at intake.
7. Parts and Replacement Components
The bench uses replacement components that meet the specification of the device. Where an original part is available, the bench uses it and records the supplier on the handover slip. Where an original part is no longer made, the bench uses a compatible part of a stated quality and tells the customer before fitting.
Every replaced part is listed on the handover slip with its batch or supplier reference. A part removed from the device is returned to the customer on request, unless the customer has agreed to leave it for recycling. The bench does not fit a used part without saying so, and it does not sell a part as new when it is not.
A compatible part can differ slightly from an original in appearance, weight or battery runtime. The bench will describe the difference where it is material, so that the customer is not surprised at collection.
8. Charges and Payment
The charges for a repair are those shown on the approved quotation. A diagnostic charge applies where the customer asks for a triage run without a repair, and the amount is stated before the device is taken in. Payment is due at collection unless a different arrangement is agreed in writing for a corporate account.
The bench accepts the payment methods shown at the desk and issues an invoice for every paid repair. An unpaid invoice may attract a late charge only where that charge was disclosed before the work began. The bench does not hold a device as security beyond the collection and storage rules in these terms.
9. Repair Warranty
The bench warrants the workmanship of a repair and the replacement part against a defect in fitting or in the part itself for the term stated on the handover slip. The term is counted from the collection date and applies to the specific repair described on the slip. A warranty is given to the account holder named on the visit file and is not transferable without written consent.
Where a fault covered by the warranty appears, the customer should return the device with the handover slip and the tag number. The bench will inspect the device, reproduce the fault and, where the claim is valid, repair or replace the part at no charge for the part or the labour. The bench may keep the failed part for inspection.
A warranty repair is carried out at the bench during opening hours. The bench will not reimburse a repair carried out by a third party without prior written agreement, and it will not cover a cost that the customer incurs without asking.
10. Warranty Exclusions
The warranty does not cover damage that follows the repair. It does not cover a drop, a liquid spill, a power surge, a pressure crack or a fault caused by a third party. It does not cover normal wear of consumables, a software fault, a virus or a change made by the customer to the fitted part.
- Physical damage after collection, including cracks and bent hinges.
- Damage from liquid, dust or heat beyond the design of the device.
- Faults in components that were not part of the original repair.
- Software, account or configuration problems unrelated to the repair.
- Work altered or repeated by another technician after collection.
Where a device is returned under warranty and the bench finds that the fault is outside the warranty, the bench will explain the finding and quote for a new repair. The customer remains free to decline the new repair and collect the device.
11. Collection and Storage
A device is released only at a collection sitting, where the customer or an authorised colleague signs the collection line on the handover slip. The customer should bring the tag number and, where possible, the handover slip copy. The bench checks the identity of the person collecting and will not release a device to a stranger who cannot show authority.
Where a customer cannot collect in person, a written authorisation naming the colleague is required. The bench will record the name of the collector on the slip. The bench does not release a device to a courier without a prior arrangement and a correct address.
12. Uncollected Devices
The bench asks that a device be collected within the collection window stated on the triage sheet. Where a device remains uncollected, the bench will contact the customer using the details on the visit file. If the customer cannot be reached, the bench will hold the device for a reasonable period and may charge a storage fee after that period, only where the fee was disclosed at intake.
Where a device remains uncollected for an extended period after contact has failed, the bench may deal with it according to the law that governs uncollected goods. The bench will not dispose of a device without giving written notice to the address on the visit file. The bench will keep a record of the notice and of any disposal so that the matter can be explained later.
13. Limitation of Liability
The bench is responsible for a device only while it is in bench custody and only in the manner set out in these terms. The bench will repair or replace a component that it damaged through negligence, and it will not be liable for losses that flow from the damage, such as lost profit or lost business opportunity.
The total liability of the bench for a single device is limited to the value of the repair carried out on that device, unless the law of the customer country does not permit such a limit. Nothing in these terms excludes a liability that cannot be excluded by law, including a liability for fraud or for a duty that a consumer protection statute imposes.
The bench is not liable for a delay caused by a supplier, a courier, a power cut or another event beyond its reasonable control. Where such an event occurs, the bench will tell the customer and will offer a new collection window.
14. Cancellations and Refunds
A customer may cancel a repair before the work begins. Where a diagnostic run was carried out, the diagnostic charge remains payable. Where a part was ordered specially for the device and the order cannot be cancelled, the bench may charge the cost of that part where the customer was told of the order before it was placed.
A refund is issued where the bench cannot complete an approved repair and no alternative is acceptable to the customer. A refund is paid by the same method used for the original payment. The bench does not issue a cash refund for a card payment unless the card rules allow it.
15. Third Party Devices and Software
Some repairs involve a device that is managed by an employer or a school, or software that is licensed to a third party. The customer must have authority to authorise a repair on a managed device, and must be able to unlock any account that is required for the test. The bench will not bypass a security control that belongs to a third party without written authority.
Where software is licensed to a third party, the bench does not install, alter or copy it without the licence holder approval. A reinstallation of an operating system is carried out only where the customer holds the licence and agrees to the step on the triage sheet.
16. Acceptable Use of the Website
This website is provided for information about the bench and for sending a message to the intake desk. A visitor may not use the site to send unlawful content, to attempt unauthorised access, to copy the site in a misleading way or to interfere with its operation. The bench may restrict access to a visitor who abuses the site.
The contact form is not a channel for urgent safety matters. A customer who has a safety concern about a device should call the bench on the number shown on the contact page. The bench does not monitor the form outside opening hours.
17. Intellectual Property
The text, layout and design of this website belong to THE NOTEBOOK REPAIRS STATION and the developer who maintains the site. A visitor may read the site and print a page for personal use. A visitor may not reproduce the site content for commercial use without written permission.
The brand name THE NOTEBOOK REPAIRS STATION and the bench motifs used on this site are the property of the organization. A supplier or partner may refer to the bench by name when describing a repair, but may not use the name in a way that suggests endorsement without written consent.
18. Privacy and Records
The bench handles personal information in line with the privacy policy published on this website. The policy explains what the visit file contains, how long it is kept and how a customer may request a copy or a correction. These terms and the privacy policy should be read together, because the visit file is both the repair record and the privacy record.
The customer agrees that the bench may keep the triage sheet and the handover slip for the warranty and accounting periods described in the privacy policy. The bench will not use the record for a marketing purpose without consent.
19. Governing Law and Disputes
These terms are governed by the law of Singapore, and the courts of Singapore have jurisdiction over a dispute that arises from them, unless a consumer protection rule in the customer home country gives the customer a right to bring a claim closer to home. The parties will first try to resolve a dispute by a written exchange through the intake desk.
A customer who raises a dispute should include the tag number, the handover slip and a short account of what happened. The bench will reply within a reasonable period and will propose a practical route to resolution, such as a re-test, a replacement or a refund. Legal action should be a last step, not a first one.
20. Changes to These Terms
The bench may change these terms when the service changes or when the law requires it. A change is published on this page with a new date at the top. A change does not alter a repair that was already approved and completed, and it does not reduce a warranty that was already issued.
A customer who wants to know whether these terms have changed since a visit can compare the date here with the copy kept in the visit file. The current page applies to a new visit, and the copy in the visit file applies to the visit it describes.
21. Contact and Questions
For a question about these terms, a warranty claim or a collection, contact the intake desk using the details below. A warranty claim should include the tag number and, where possible, a description of the fault as it now appears.
